The Ruby Sunrise (by Rinne Groff) is presented by L.A. Theatre Works. This standalone audiobook app combines a professional audio recording with supplemental features for download-once, grab-and-go anywhere enjoyment.

Hailed by The Boston Globe as “a gem,” The Ruby Sunrise begins when a 1920s tomboy feverishly works to develop her latest invention - a little something called “television.” Twenty-five years later, her daughter will stop at nothing to bring her mothers incredible story to life during TVs Golden Age. But will it get the truth it deserves? “A finely tuned portrait of televisions early days. [Groff] has managed to skillfully blend past and present.” (Providence Journal)

The character of Ruby Sunrise is fictional, but has a firm historical basis in the life of inventor Philo T. Farnsworth. In 2007, we spoke with historian Phil Savaneck, who has produced numerous documentaries about television’s history, about the life of this extraordinary, but still relatively unknown pioneer.

An L.A. Theatre Works full-cast performance featuring Asher Book, Katharine Leonard, Kate McGregor-Stewart, Elisabeth Moss, Jason Ritter, Kate Steele and Henry Winkler.

This play is part of L.A. Theatre Works’ Relativity Series featuring science-themed plays. Major funding for the Relativity Series is provided by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation to enhance public understanding of science and technology in the modern world.

DURATION: About a 1.5 hour performance.
